Art Nouveau Draperie French Necklace with Ruby Pastes
Beautiful Antique French Draperie necklace.
This one is not solid gold, it is gold plated, which is a nice affordable alternative to its 18k solid gold counterparts (French pieces of that time could only be manufactured in 18k gold plate or solid 18k, no lower carat was legally permitted).
It features all the goldsmith mastery of the era with its lovely fancy links, milgrain details, and ruby paste drops.
Details:
The necklace dates from 1900s, Art Nouveau era.
It is made of a gold plated metal. It has a maker mark on a loop near the closing mechanism "CHAPADO". The clasp has been replaced by my goldsmith and is made of solid 18k gold, it is stamped 750.
Condition:
It is in very good antique condition, with gentle surface wear and patina. There is no clear flaw that I can see, aside from some oxidization and wear to the plating. Please inspect the photos.
