French Art Nouveau Heart Pendant with an Iris in FIX
Art Nouveau French pendant with an Iris in repoussé.
French FIX pieces are collectable and hard to find, especially when in excellent condition like this one.
Details:
The pendant is stamped "FIX", French hallmark for "or laminé", which is a high quality type of gold plating. FIX is a brand that was created in Paris in 1829 by François-Auguste Savard, and refers to a thick 18k gold plating. FIX platings are typically made of 20 to 40microns of 18k gold while nowadays only 3 to 5microns is enough for a jewel to qualify as gold plated. Jewels holding this stamp are therefore robust and meant to last, they often show very little wear, even after more than 100 years old !
Condition:
It is in excellent antique condition, with no flaw to note.
The pendant comes with a 45cm / 18" gold plated silver chain that is stamped 925 at the clasp.
