1940 Gold Plated French Locket with a Natural Pearl
Beautiful mid-century French Gold Plated Locket.
The locket features a new natural pearl at the front facet, that was added by my goldsmith. It also has a textured effect to the facet and an intricate ornament all around. The back is plain.
Details:
The locket dates from the 1940s. It is stamped at the top loop with the French hallmark for 18k gold plating, please see last picture.
French vintage and antique platings are typically made of 20 to 40microns of 18k gold while nowadays only 3 to 5microns is enough for a jewel to qualify as gold plated. Vintage/Antique jewels holding the French stamp for gold plating like this one are therefore robust and meant to last, they often show very little wear, even after more than 100 years !
Condition:
It is in pristine antique condition with no flaw to note. It closes tightly with a snap. The pearl is new and natural.
The locket comes with the 45cm / 18" chain featured in the photos. It is a gold plated silver chain, stamped 925 at the clasp.
